MiniDeskMixer
Mix every audio input, with meters and faders, in one small window.
About
MiniDeskMixer shows each audio input as a channel strip, the way a small desk mixer does: a level meter, a clip light, and a fader for every microphone, instrument, or audio interface you connect. On a Mac it combines any or all of them into the Mac's input, so you can use two microphones in a call, or record each input on its own track.
Use cases on a Mac
- Add background music to a podcast. Bring in music on one input and your voice on another, and set the music low under your voice. The music comes in as an input, such as a phone or mixer plugged into your audio interface.
- Teach guitar live. Turn on your guitar's audio interface and the microphone for your voice, and your student hears both in the video call.
- Simplify a recording session. Combine several interfaces and microphones into one device, and record the full mix or each input on its own track in GarageBand or another recording app.
- Record a meeting with several microphones. Place USB microphones around the room, turn them all on, and record or stream the combined mix.
What it does
- Shows one channel strip for each audio input, plus a Monitor strip for what you hear, and adds or removes strips as you connect devices
- Meters each strip from −60 to 0 dBFS, with left and right bars for stereo devices, and holds a clip light on until you reset it
- On a Mac, combines any or all of your inputs into the Mac's input, each at its own fader and balance or pan, so calls and streams hear them all
- Offers a 16-channel MiniDeskMixer audio device to recording apps: the mix on channels 1 and 2, and the first seven inputs as separate stereo tracks
- Adds or removes an input from the Mac's input in one click, without opening System Settings
- Lets you name each strip, and shrinks to meters and faders only in a small window
Privacy
MiniDeskMixer works entirely on your device. It mixes and meters audio as it passes and never records or saves audio itself; on a Mac the mix goes only to the MiniDeskMixer audio device and your monitor output. It makes no network connections and includes no analytics or tracking. Details may change before release, and a privacy policy section for MiniDeskMixer will be published before it ships.

Availability
MiniDeskMixer is in development and not yet available. The Mac version installs its own audio device, so it will be a direct download from this page, signed and notarized by Apple, rather than a Mac App Store app. The iPhone and iPad version will be on the App Store.
