PocketBrowse
A brief of what's happening around you: the weather, local news, and events.

About
PocketBrowse shows what's happening around a place right now. Open it at any time of day, for your current location or a ZIP code you enter, and it gathers the weather, local news, and upcoming events into one screen. Tap a story or event for the full details and a link to its source.
What it does
- Draws the day's weather as a whiteboard cartoon, the Sky Board, next to the current conditions and the forecast
- Shows up to 16 local stories, events, and places as cards, each with its image
- Finds local sources for any US place on its own, such as town and county sites, library and parks calendars, and local news
- Checks each event for a date, time, place, and price, and shows what's missing instead of guessing
- Refreshes about every hour, and keeps working when one source fails, with a note in place of the missing section
Privacy
PocketBrowse does its processing on your device and stores your briefs there. It connects to the network only to fetch public information: weather, news, events, and the Sky Board cartoon, which a web service draws from the day's weather. To draw it, the app sends that service the place's name and coordinates along with the weather, and its searches for local sources go to Brave Search with the place's name. Calendar access is optional and only for your own calendars. Details may change, and a privacy policy section for PocketBrowse will be published before any release.
